Best stage race of 2018 prepares the upcoming edition

The Volta ao Algarve was the best stage race of the 2018 Europe Tour, according with data from the benchmark statistics platform on international cycling, ProCyclingStats.com.

The PCS Races ranking shows the Volta ao Algarve as the best stage race in the World, excluding the WorldTour events. See the ranking here.

We have to thank all the teams for the sporting quality of the Volta ao Algarve. In 2018 we received 13 of the 18 WorldTour teams and 19 riders of the World Ranking top 100, amoung them the 2018 Tour de France winner, Geraint Thomas.

Our happiness with the 2018 Volta ao Algarve is a huge motivation for the upcoming edition which is underway. In 2019, the Volta ao Algarve will remain as a 2.HC level and will be held from 20 to 24 February.

The 2019 Volta ao Algarve, the 45th edition of the event, will start in Portimão, European City of Sport. It will be a comeback to Portimão, which has not received the competition since 2012, when Bradley Wiggin won there the last stage.

The route for the 2019 edition still under constrution, but we can advance that the race will keep the same characteristics of the previous editions: two stages for sprinters, one individual time trial and two stages with uphill finish.
