Paul Seixas makes his debut in the Volta ao Algarve in a race with a taste of home

Young Frenchman Paul Seixas is competing in the Volta ao Algarve for the first time and is full of ambition for the Portuguese race, where he believes he can fight for the top places in the general classification.

“I hope to win at least one stage. I’ll see how my legs respond, but for now, I think they’re fine,” said the cyclist, who acknowledges the presence of a star-studded peloton, with names such as João Almeida and Juan Ayuso, but insists that his goal is to remain competitive throughout the week.

In addition to the sporting aspect, Seixas also spoke about his family connection to Portugal, which makes this participation even more special. “My great-grandfather is Portuguese, so it’s good to be here. This is only the second time in my life that I have visited Portugal and I feel very good”, he confessed.

The Frenchman also pointed out that the route of this edition may favor his characteristics, especially due to the combination of medium mountains and the time trial. “I think my chances overall are very good. The route favors me.”

“I know how to say ‘thank you’ (…) I’ll try to improve”

In good spirits, Seixas also showed a desire to get closer to the Portuguese public, admitting that he only knows a few words. “I know how to say ‘thank you’… and that’s probably all for now. I’ll try to improve.”

The Volta ao Algarve marks another step forward for the young French talent, who arrives in southern Portugal with confidence and clear goals: to compete for the general classification and, if possible, leave the Algarve with a place on the podium — or even with victory.
