The teams Bora-hansgrohe, UAE Team Emirates and Caja Rural-Seguros RGA had already sent their enrolment forms to the Volta ao Algarve, which will take place from 20 to 24 February.
The German champion, Pascal Ackermann, one of the most prolific riders of 2018, will lead the Bora-hansgrohe’s aspirations in the sprint finishes. The Polish time trial champion, Maciej Bodnar is one of the candidates to win the third stage, an individual time trial. Patrik Konrad, the best cyclist of Bora-hansgrohe on GC in the 2018 “Grand Tours” is the best option of the team for the GC in Algarve. Andreas Schillinger, Michael Schwarzmann, Rüdiger Selig and Jean-Pierre Drucker will complete the roster.
The winner of the 2015 Vuelta a España, Fabio Aru, will lead the UAE Team Emirates. The Italian rider will test his shape in Algarve, a race with a route for complete riders. The Team Emirates also entered two young riders with aspirations in the stages for sprinters, Simone Consonni and Jasper Philipsen. Alexandr Riabushenko, Kristijan Đurasek, Valerio Conti and Roberto Ferrari are also registered.
The Spanish team Caja Rural-Seguros RGA registered some of its best signings for the 2019: the Portuguese road race and time trial champion, Domingos Gonçalves, the Russian Sergei Chernetskii, seventh in the 2015 Volta ao Algarve, and the Italian Matteo Malucceli, another rider to follow in the stages with bunch sprint. The selection also includes Mauricio Moreira, Jon Aberasturi, Antonio Molina and Gonzalo Serrano.
