Two teams that played a major role in the 2023 edition of the Volta ao Algarve have already guaranteed their presence in the 2024 edition, from 14 to 18 February. They are the American EF Education-EasyPost, the seventh confirmed WorldTeam, and the Norwegian Uno-X Pro Cycling Team, the first ProTeam with a passport for the 50th Volta ao Algarve.
The Nordic team will be in the Algarve for the third time. It secured its presence in the 2024 edition of the race with an exemplary performance last year. Uno-X won the first yellow jersey of the 2023 Volta ao Algarve, thanks to the victory in Lagos of Alexander Kristoff, who was chosen to win the race’s Prestige Award.
Interestingly, the winner of the next two stages and final winner of the Green Jersey, Magnus Cort Nielsen, will also be part of the Uno-X squad in 2024. But in the previous edition he wore the colours of EF Education-EasyPost, the other team we’re announcing today.
Coming from the United States of America, EF Education-EasyPost will remain in the peloton of the Volta ao Algarve, to which it returned in 2023 after being absent for five years. It will be the ninth participation of the team to which Rui Costa will transfer next season.
Eight teams have already been confirmed for the 50th Volta ao Algarve, the only stage race in Portugal that is part of the UCI ProSeries circuit. So far, seven WorldTeams and one ProTeam are guaranteed, representing some of the most important tourism markets for the Algarve and Portugal.
Teams already announced: Alpecin-Deceuninck (Belgium), Arkea-B&B Hotels (France), Astana Qazaqstan Team (Kazakhstan), BORA-hansgrohe (Germany), EF Education-EasyPost (USA), Groupama-FDJ (France), Team dsm-firmenich (Netherlands) and Uno-X Pro Cycling Team (Norway).
