The world’s best teams continue to add quality to the Volta ao Algarve

UAE Team Emirates, the best team in the world in 2023, and Lidl-Trek, fifth in the international ranking, are two more WorldTeams with confirmed participation in the Volta ao Algarve. They are joined by Tudor Pro Cycling Team, one of the leading ProTeams.

The organisation of the UCI ProSeries stage race, which will take place between 14 and 18 February 2024, already has eleven confirmed teams, nine WorldTeams and two ProTeams.

UAE Team Emirates is the most Portuguese of the world’s top division teams, with four Portuguese riders in the 2024 squad. New recruit António Morgado will join João Almeida, Ivo Oliveira and Rui Oliveira.

The Emirati team is a frequent presence at the Volta ao Algarve, where it will be for the seventh year in a row. Since it was renamed UAE Team Emirates, it has only been absent from the 2017 edition of the race. Before that, as Lampre, it had already taken part in three editions. The most notable result was Tadej Pogačar’s victory in 2019, the Slovenian prodigy’s first win for a WorldTour team.


In 2024, Lidl-Trek will take part in the Volta ao Algarve for the eighth time. After an excellent fifth place in the 2023 collective world ranking, the team from the United States of America was one of the blocs that strengthened the most during the transfer period, and will certainly come to the Volta ao Algarve with the intention of taking the spotlight in a race in which they won a stage, the 2016 time trial in Sagres, through Swiss Fabian Cancellara.

Curiously, the former Swiss rider is one of the names behind the Tudor Pro Cycling Team, as is Portuguese Ricardo Scheidecker. The Swiss team is in its second year of activity and will be at the Volta ao Algarve for the second time. After a debut season full of good results, Tudor has boosted its roster with experienced WorldTour riders and aims to make its debut in the major tours.

Teams already confirmed for the 50th Volta ao Algarve: Alpecin-Deceuninck (Belgium), Arkea-B&B Hotels (France), Astana Qazaqstan Team (Kazakhstan), BORA-hansgrohe (Germany), EF Education-EasyPost (USA), Groupama-FDJ (France), Lidl-Trek (USA), Team dsm-firmenich (Netherlands), Tudor Pro Cycling Team (SUI), UAE Team Emirates (United Arab Emirates) and Uno-X Pro Cycling Team (Norway).
