UAE Team Emirates-XRG is the first confirmed team for the 2026 Volta ao Algarve

The best team in the world in 2025 will return to the Algarve roads from 18 to 22 February for the 51st edition of the Volta ao Algarve. The most Portuguese team in the international peloton is expected to include four Portuguese riders.

The first confirmed team for next year’s edition could not be better. UAE Team Emirates-XRG dominated 2025 with a total of 95 victories and will make its 13th appearance in the Algarve, including one overall win. This happened in 2019, with Tadej Pogačar, who claimed his first professional victory on the second stage of the race and went on to win the overall classification.

Other notable results include Rui Costa’s third place (2014) and the second-place finishes of Brandon McNulty (2022) and João Almeida (2025). In the last edition, the team came very close to winning the race, finishing just 15 seconds behind Jonas Vingegaard in the final classification. UAE Team Emirates-XRG has also achieved four stage wins in the Volta ao Algarve: Alberto Loddo (2003), Sacha Modolo (2014), Tadej Pogačar (2019), and most recently Jan Christen (2024).

The UAE-based team will feature four Portuguese riders well known to both national and international audiences: António Morgado, João Almeida, Ivo Oliveira, and Rui Oliveira. According to the calendars announced at the start of the new season, all will be present in the Algarve in 2026.

The next edition of the Volta ao Algarve will take place from 18 to 22 February 2026 and will once again bring some of the world’s best riders to the Algarve roads. The remaining teams and the full race route will be confirmed soon.
