The Volta ao Algarve was one of the chosen races for the new circuit UCI ProSeries in 2020. The race will have five stages, starting in Portimão and arriving in Lagos on the first stage, probably with a mass sprint finish. The second stage, from Sagres to Alto da Fóia (Monchique), will be the first test for the yellow jersey contenders. On the third day, the fastest men will have another opportunity. Starting in Faro and arriving at Tavira, there is a perfect chance for sprinters.
The final decisions will take place on the weekend, for the final counts of general classification. The fourth day starts in Albufeira finishing at the top of Malhão (Loulé), the iconic climb of Volta ao Algarve. The final day will decide the final classification with the individual time trial of 20,3 kilometers, around Lagoa.
