The 2021 Volta ao Algarve, scheduled for February 17th to 21st, is generating a great interest among the top teams of the international peloton. Thirty teams outside Portugal have already requested an invitation to the Portuguese race of the ProSeries circuit.
The quality of the organization, the international media coverage of the race, the excellent quality of the Algarve hotels and the security of the destination Portugal, particularly the Algarve region, in times of pandemic, justify this interest from the international peloton.
The Portuguese Cycling Federation, organizer of the Volta ao Algarve, will select the teams in the coming weeks. The choice will be made between 16 WorldTeams, but also the Portuguese Continental Teams and the international ProTeams.
The Volta ao Algarve is one of the most important sporting events in the country. In 2020 it was the second best race on the ProSeries circuit according to the quality of the startlist and the 17th best, if we also include the WorldTour circuit events: see HERE
The quality of Volta ao Algarve attracts great national and international media coverage. The 2020 edition had, in Portugal, a media coverage with an estimated return (Advertising Value Equivalent) by Cision at 11 million euros. Outside Portugal, in addition to live television broadcasting to 83 countries on four continents, 1275 news were published about the Volta ao Algarve.
The global media coverage of the race means that the Algarve “brand” has a peak of worldwide notoriety during the event. In 2020, the search for the word “Algarve” worldwide in the week of the Volta ao Algarve was only surpassed by searches during the summer, the peak of tourism in the region.
